Analysis of the rough emerald

The gemologist and master cutter carry out a thorough analysis of the rough emerald prior to cutting process. It will be necessary to study and analyse the numerous cutting possibilities in anticipation of the final colour, transparency, treatment and fire of each piece of rough before committing to final plan for each emerald. This is not without risk, as around 75% of the weight can be lost in this part of the process to produce the optimum polished emerald

“Emeralds are exceptionally rare, in fact for every 30 diamonds that get cut only one emerald gets cut.”
